Most of them start as a square of mud

New build with nothing in it, or an old garden that’s given up. Either way the work is the same and it’s nearly all under the surface. Get that wrong and it sinks, puddles and moves — whatever you put on top of it.

Built up in layers, bottom first

A cut through a finished garden. We work up from the bottom of it — read this one from the ground.

Dig out

Old turf, old slabs, roots, rubble. Barrowed out and skipped. We take it down until we’re on something that isn’t going to move.

Sub base

Fresh sub base in and compacted. On one job — back patio, side path and a twelve-metre driveway — we put near twenty tonne of material in.

Sand, membrane, levels

Levels set so water runs away from your house, not towards it. Weed fabric where it’s needed, so it stays clean in two years’ time.

Then the bit you actually see

Turf, artificial grass, slabs, monobloc, decking, fence. All of it only as good as the three layers under it.

Real turf

Laid on prepared ground, with the watering instructions that actually matter. Three weeks later it’s thick enough for its first cut — we’ve the photos to prove it.

Artificial grass

30mm, properly edged and pinned. No matter how small or large the garden, we can artificial grass it — and then you never cut it again.

Slabs, patios and paths

Patios, side paths, driveways up to twelve metres. We did one house from back patio to front driveway in three days, start to finish.

Fencing and gates

Treated timber as standard, 4x4 posts concreted in. Six foot, double boarded, vertically slatted — whatever gives you the privacy you’re after, built to survive the next storm rather than the last one.

A patio that puddled

Sunken and holding water every time it rained. We lifted the lot, scraped out what was under it, put fresh sub base and sand in and relaid every slab — the proper way it should have been done the first time.

Hedge out, fence in

Same customer, one boundary, start to finish. The conifer hedge came out, the stumps were ground, and a double side-boarded six foot fence went in where it had been — the privacy without the forever growing.
